Fifth Grade

Grade five Art students have a command of many materials and techniques and are able to utilize these in creating personal visual statements.  Observation, memory and imagination all come into play.  The concepts of proportion and composition are revisited.  Students have the opportunity to make choices and decisions and feel confident as they create art that is meaningful to them.

Grade five students will:
  • Create ceramic pieces using the slab technique.
  • Use printmaking techniques to create multiples and monoprints.
  • Study the human figure, making figure drawings and attempting to observe and replicate human proportions.
  • Design 3-dimensional artworks with a variety of materials.
  • Use color to enhance the message of an art work.
  • View and discuss the work of artists and craftspeople whose products exemplify the themes and concepts being studied.
